Intramurals

The intramural program at Southern Virginia University is designed to provide a venue for wholesome, co-ed, social and athletic interaction to both students and faculty. To this end, the coordinator of the intramural program is charged with administering the program as follows:

  • Ensuring all participants strictly adhere to the Southern Virginia honor code for grooming standards and conduct themselves in accordance with the entire honor code.
  • Play which might reasonably lead to injury of any of the participants or lead to damaging the facilities, if allowed to continue, will necessitate quick action by the administrator to ensure safety and probably will lead to an “immediate” change of the rules previously posted.
  • Varsity and JV athletes are prohibited from playing intramurals in their sport. Their coach may also prohibit them from playing any intramural sport during their playing season.
  • Upon signing up to play an intramural sport, the participants agree to conduct themselves in accordance with the rules, regardless of an officiating call with which they don’t agree. Egregious behavior or very poor conduct may be referred to the office of the dean of students.
  • The schedule for the entire semester will be posted on the website, and prospective participants may sign up on the bulletin board beside the Stoddard Activities Center. This should be done prior to noon of the day play starts to facilitate scheduling and avoid loss of playing time.
  • If a participant doesn’t have a team, he or she should sign up anyway and will then be placed a team.

Please review a concise summary of each event's intramural rules before play.
