Orientation FAQ

SVU Orientation FAQ’s

     1.  Do I HAVE to come?

a.   Orientation is HIGHLY recommended for all new students.  It will help you learn the unique system here and set you up for success.  Plus, it’s a LOT of fun and you get to meet a lot of great people.

     2. How much does it cost?

a. Our Orientation is FREE!  And besides that, you get some wonderful items just for coming.

        3. What’s a PAL?

a.   Your PAL is your Peer Advancement Leader.  He or she will help you in your transition to SVU.  You should learn who your PAL is soon after you register for classes. If you have not, please contact Associate Dean Joe Bouchelle at 540-261-8428 or joseph.bouchelle@svu.edu

       4.    What do we DO at Orientation?

a.   There are two main goals of our Orientation.  First, we want you to make some new friends and feel connected to our great university.  Second, we want to show you and acquaint you with the various resources available to you to insure your success as a new SVU student.  In between these two things, we have a lot of fun and enjoy some awesome activities.

       5.     I’m a returning student to SVU- do I need to go?  (i.e.- Former SVU students who have served their missions and are now returning to SVU)

a.   You’d be surprised how much things can change in two years!  So…..YES!  In just the last two years the following changes have occurred which will affect your life at SVU:  Location of the Admissions, Student Financial Services, Student Life and Financial Aid offices; the opening of the new housing unit- the Lofts; renovation of the student union; opening of the new LDS Institute building and many more.
