Dr. Brinley is a Family Life specialist and has a doctorate degree in Family Studies. He is a professor at Brigham Young University in the Department of Church History and Doctrine and is the author of ten books, 9 of which are on marriage and family relations. Between Husband and Wife: Gospel Perspectives on Marital Intimacy has been a best-seller in the Church over the past five years.

Dr. Brinley also speaks at Education Week in Provo and at BYU-Idaho each year. He is a member of the AMCAP board and presents periodically on matters of marriage and marriage counseling to professional counselors. He is a specialist in the area of dating/courtship, marriage, marital problems, parenting and the family as a part of the larger social order.

Additionally, Dr. Brinley has served as a mission president in the Texas Dallas Mission from 1987-1990 and now teaches a class on LDS Marriage and Family at BYU along with a Doctrines of the Gospel course. He has presented his ideas at a number of conferences and has traveled extensively to speak to LDS groups about doctrinal therapy.
