Do I Need a Computer?

Parents of prospective students often ask if their son or daughter should bring a computer with them to school. This is a personal decision, based on student preferences and study habits. However, you may find the following information helpful:

• The majority of Southern Virginia students have a personal PC or laptop.
• Our library has a computer lab with over twenty computers that operate on both a Mac and/or PC operating system.
• Wireless internet is available in many public locations on campus, including residence halls. Ethernet access is also available.
• Public printing is available in the library; however, it costs $0.05 per page.
• MySVU is used for class registration, calendaring, housing applications, and faculty evaluations.
• Many professors ask that assignments be emailed to them or uploaded to MySVU (Merlin).
