Honor Housing

Honor housing is a program designed for upperclassmen who have successfully demonstrated leadership on campus, the ability to maintain and contribute to their residential environment and a willingness to teach these principles to incoming freshmen. Honor housing is self-policing, meaning no room inspections are required. Resident Advisors provide assistance as needed but no oversight. In return, students living in honor housing take an active role in mentoring new students, providing meaningful service and demonstrating their commitment to build and improve the SVU community.

To apply for honor housing, students must:

- Be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior, or a second-semester freshmen over age 21
- Have attended at least one semester at Southern Virginia University.
- Have maintained a cumulative 3.0 GPA
- Complete the Honor Housing Application.
- Submit two letters of recommendation, including at least one from a faculty member of Southern Virginia.
- Have no pending Honor Code violations.

Applications and letters of recommendation are due by April 1, 2012 for the Fall 2012-2013 semester.

Following the application process, the candidate will be called in and interviewed by a representative from the Housing Office and other assigned panel members from the SVU community.

Students may be removed from honor housing at the discretion of the Director of Housing. Any honor code violations mandate immediate removal from honor housing, with no option for reapplication.
