Welcome to residential life at Southern Virginia University! Whether you live on- or off-campus, we strive to ensure that your living arrangements enhance your academic experience and aid you in your journey to become a leader-servant.
All students of Southern Virginia University are encouraged to live on campus in order to more fully enjoy the campus environment and participate in student life activities. Southern Virginia University is committed to providing a wholesome living atmosphere for students residing both on- and off-campus. The honor code is the basis for ensuring this atmosphere and sustaining the unique culture of the university. The honor code and the residential living policies apply to all students attending Southern Virginia University.
On-campus housing options are made available to students based on class standing and age. Our pricing structure is likewise incremental based on a student's official class standing with the registrar's office.
Beginning Fall of 2010, all students are required to live in university-owned housing unless they qualify for one of the following exceptions:
- married
- age 21 or older
- junior or senior class status (at least 56 credit hours)
- living at home within a 75 mile radius of campus
- living with an aunt or uncle who is a SVU employee
- sophomore living in approved off-campus housing (River Crossing Apartments only)
- parent or legal guardian of a dependant child
Freshmen under 21 are required to live in residence halls. All students living in residence halls will automatically be charged for $1,000 of Campus Cash, which can be used in Jonzzey's Cafe or the Dining Hall for meals. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may choose to live either in residence halls or apartment style housing. They are encouraged, but not required, to put Campus Cash on their card.
Please note that a MySVU log-in ID and PIN are required to complete the housing application. For questions concerning your student ID and PIN please contact the admissions office at (540) 261-8421.
