Catering

Southern Virginia's Dining Services would be delighted to cater your events! With years of experience in food services and the community, our staff will help make your event a festive and beautiful occasion. Here are a few things you need to know:

Placing an Order

  1. Before you submit your request and secure your date, please note the following:

Campus Events with Smaller Food Orders  (less than 100 expected head count)
Must be made no less than 14 business days before the event or they will be denied or incur a late fee.

Campus Events with Larger Food Orders  (more than 100 expected head count), Weddings & Receptions
Must be scheduled six weeks in advance or they will be denied or incur a late fee.
Wedding and reception orders must be submitted two months in advance or they will incur a late fee.

  2. The event point of contact should contact the Events Office at 540-261-8453 or email events@svu.edu for all food orders. Event planners are not allowed to contact SVU Catering directly without approval from the Events Coordinator.

  3. The Events Office will submit the tentative food order to SVU Catering for a customer estimate and overview.

  4. The Events Office will then confer with the event planner via email for approval to proceed with further planning.

  5. If necessary, the Catering Manager will contact you for further consultation.

NOTE: Off-campus groups must sign a Food Order Agreement.

Payments

A 20 percent down payment is required within two business days of the confirmation from the Events Coordinator. The remaining 80 percent is required 10 business days prior to a major event (100+ people) and three business days before a minor event (<100 people).

Cancellations

Cancellations made 10 business days in advance for a major event (100+ people) or three business days in advance for a minor event (100+ people) are subject to a full refund of the 20 percent down payment. Any cancellations made after those time periods will result in forfeiture of the 20 percent down payment.

Point of Contact

To avoid conflicts, only the event planner should contact the Events Office and SVU Catering. The point of contact is appointed by the group or group sponsor. The first person who reserves a date, space or makes a food order is often the point of contact.
