Robert Stoddard
Division of Arts Chair, Associate Professor of Theatre
Robert Stoddard is the division of arts chair and an associate professor of theatre at Southern Virginia University.
Stoddard joined the faculty in 2003. With frequent collaborator, Orson Scott Card, he has written several popular musicals, including "Stone Tables," the score of which was eventually recorded and released on CD by Shadow Mountain. Their musical, "Father, Mother, Mother, Mom," was performed at Robert Redford's Sundance Theatre and throughout the intermountain west. Professor Stoddard's musical, "Giraffe Story," for which he wrote the book, music and lyrics, won the Utah Fine Arts Playwriting Contest and has been produced nationally. A collection of his Christmas carols were recently released on CD as "December Tales." He has also written music for television ("Border Town"); music, lyrics and sketches for stage revues ("Wasatch Boulevard"), and songs for other recording artists (Adelaide Sinclair and Charlotte Smurthwaite). In Los Angeles, he directed the world premiere of the musical "Innocents Abroad" at the Gene Dynarski Theatre.
Stoddard teaches acting, directing, playwriting and general theatre classes and directs three of the five annual Southern Virginia theatre productions.
