Peter Del Vecchio

Adjunct Instructor of Music

Peter Del Vecchio is an adjunct instructor of music at Southern Virginia University.

He earned his bachelor's in music education from Rutgers University in 1973 and his master's in music performance from Montclair State University in 1991. In 1994, he was recognized as a Distinguished Teacher of Chamber Music by The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York City.

In demand as a classical trumpet player and private instructor of distinction in northern N.J., he was founder and principal trumpet of The North Jersey Brass Quintet and the Conservatory Brass and is also the founding conductor of the Rutgers University Alumni Wind Symphony and the Ramsey Wind Symphony.  Del Vecchio is an accomplished composer of classical and folk music and is the author of the "Art of Being Human," a book about living one's life on earth with more awareness, kindness, and in service to humanity, published by Airleaf Press.

In 2007, Mr. Del Vecchio retired from a long and successful career as a public school music teacher in N.J., and relocated to Rockbridge Baths with his wife, Patti, and their son Tommy, the youngest of four children.
