Launa T. Whitehead
Assistant Professor of Music
Launa Whitehead is an assistant professor of music at Southern Virginia University.
She came to Southern Virginia University from southwest Utah. She holds a master of music degree in flute performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She taught music core courses at Dixie State College where she also directed the Dixie Flute Choir. She was also the Director of Flute Studies at Southern Utah University and Tuacahn Center for the Performing Arts. She played principal flute with the Southwest Symphony Orchestra for over fifteen years. She has been a featured soloist in the Temple Square Concert Series as well as at Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. She released her first CD, "Peace to the Soul," in 2000. She is a member of the National Flute Association and has been an active adjudicator and clinician for numerous regional competitions and ensembles. Whitehead currently performs with several orchestras and ensembles in the Shenandoah area.
