BSB: Four Knights Earn USCAA All-America Honors
ImageNEWPORT NEWS, Va. (May 12, 2008) – Four Southern Virginia University baseball players have been named All-Americans by the USCAA with one of the four also being named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team.

Greg Larsen (Orem, Utah/Timpanogos HS), who was recently named Academic All-District by CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine, was named an All-American and to the National All-Academic Team. Joining Larsen as All-Americans are Jonathan Mills (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Jake Johnson (Phoenix, Ariz./Glendale CC) and Derek Snider (Lancaster, Calif/Antelope Valley).

TEN: Dryden to Coach Women's Tennis
ImageBUENA VISTA, Va. (May 12, 2008) – Southern Virginia University athletic director Tom Longenecker has announced the hiring of Deidra Dryden as the new women’s tennis coach. Dryden took over as interim head coach during the 2008 season.

“We are extremely excited to have her coaching women’s tennis,” Southern Virginia athletic director Tom Longenecker said. “She played a key role in starting women’s sports on campus and we look forward to her doing an outstanding job.”

SFB: Knights Take Seventh at USCAA Nationals
ImageDECATUR, Ill. (May 10, 2008) – Southern Virginia University softball finished seventh at the USCAA National Tournament with a 4-2 victory over Lyndon State on Saturday. With the win the Knights finish the season 16-17 overall.

Southern Virginia opened the tournament with an 0-3 record in pool play, falling 3-1 to Penn State Beaver, 7-2 to Spalding and 13-0 to Saint Mary of the Woods.

The Knights then took on Briarcliffe in the first round of consolation play on Saturday morning and fell 9-4 to set up the game with Lyndon State, which entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed.
