Where We Are Today – December 2010

Alumni Directory

We are working to create an alumni directory that can be accessed through your student ID and pin numbers. The directory will give alumni the ability directly update their personal information online, as well as search for classmates by name or by year.

5 Buck-a-Month Campaign

The “5 Buck-a-Month” giving campaign was launched during Homecoming 2010. Only 15 alumni currently participate. Those who have agreed to participate in the campaign have authorized a monthly withdrawal of $5.00 or more from their bank account, specifically dedicated and directed to the Southern Virginia University Alumni Association for its purposes, as determined by the alumni association through its directors. Our goal is to have 200 committed alumni (200 alumni x $5.00 x 12 months = $12,000.00 a year) by the end of next year. Participation by each graduating class will allow this fund to significantly grow over time.

Southern Seminary Alumni

We are working with Southern Seminary alumni and are presently planning a Southern Seminary reunion on campus for the end of May 2011.

Alumni Association Chocolate

Chocolate bars featuring an impression of Main Hall, manufactured for us by The Cocoa Mill in Lexington, Va., sell in the Southern Virginia bookstore for $2.00 (dark, white and milk chocolate bars available). The Alumni Association also sells “SVU chocolate assortments” that have the Main Hall bar in the center for $25.00. They are offered at a discount to the faculty and staff for university purposes. Since they were introduced in September, the assortments have become the standard gift to forum, devotional and executive lecture speakers, as well as departing volunteers, board members, donors, etc.

Fawson Alumni House

Except for beds, linen, etc., the Fawson Alumni House has been almost completely furnished by donations. We are gathering Southern Seminary memorabilia that has been scattered around campus to displayin the Southern Seminary room of the Alumni House, including the organ from the Southern Seminary chapel. We hope that the new heating system will be installed by the middle of February, so that interior painting and decorating may begin.

We are constantly gathering and updating alumni contact data, including by region. If you have any questions about anything discussed above, please feel free to contact the Alumni Office at 540-261-4091, or at alumni@svu.edu
