Sports
More than 40 percent of Southern Virginia students participate on one or more of our intercollegiate or club teams.
In addition to promoting good physical health, participating in athletics can contribute directly to the refinement of your character.
Our athletic programs require integrity and discipline and teach students to apply the skills they learn on the court, mat or field to the classroom and other aspects of their lives.
Scholar Athletes
Because of our unique model for education, Southern Virginia athletes are redefining the term “scholar-athlete.” Since 1996, more than 200 Knights have earned All-American honors or national academic honors.
The Southern Virginia Knights have claimed more than 30 small-college national championships, succeeding in a wide variety of sports. Our athletic program is a member of the USCAA, a provisional member of the NAIA, and also competes against NCAA Division I, II and III teams.

Athletic Facilities
Our athletic facilities at Southern Virginia provide something for everyone. The Knight Sports Arena features an NCAA-regulation-size basketball court, an indoor batting cage, new locker rooms and office space for coaches, a 3,000-square-foot weight room, separate training room and laundry facilities.
In Fall 2009 we opened our new practice fields for football, soccer, lacrosse and other outdoor sports. Two are natural grass fields, and one is a state-of-the-art artificial turf field.
