Opportunities to Participate

Fewer students means more opportunities for you to get involved; it’s that simple.

Many students who decide to attend large universities give up the extracurricular activities they pursued in high school. But at Southern Virginia, students have opportunities to do the things they love most.

What we call “The Genius of Small” applies to students’ experience in the classroom and beyond. Check out all of the fun and exciting ways to get involved at Southern Virginia University.

Athletics and Intramural Sports

On the field or in the stands, there's nothing like the excitement of Knights Sports. Even if you’re not quite ready for one of our 16 varsity teams, you can enjoy some friendly competition playing intramural sports instead. Learn more about sports.

Fine and Performing Arts

At Southern Virginia you don’t have to major in theatre to be cast in a leading role or major in music to perform in the concert chorale. Everyone is invited to participate in the fine and performing arts where we will help you reach your potential regardless of your prior experience. Learn more about the fine and performing arts.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Southern Virginia has a long list of student clubs and organizations, including academic societies such as Management Society and Legal Forum; political and cultural organizations such as the Student Association and Multicultural Student Association; and recreational clubs such as Equestrian Club and Outdoor Club. If you can't find a club that's right for you, we'll help you start one. Learn more about clubs and organizations.

ROTC

Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is available to Southern Virginia students through a partnership with the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, only six miles from campus. VMI’s ROTC program has one of the richest traditions in the nation, with one of the most notable officers of the 20th century coming from its ranks: General George C. Marshall. Campus Events

Theatrical productions, live concerts, inspirational speakers, a good old game of ultimate frisbee. There's always something fun to do at Southern Virginia. To keep up on the latest events, check out our Calendar of Student Activities or our blog—the Southern Virginia Scoop.

Institute of Religion

Our campus is home to the Church Educational System's largest daytime Institute of Religion in the eastern United States, and all Southern Virginia students are encouraged to participate in Institute classes and activities.

Service Opportunities

Our motto is "Learn that life is service," and there's no better way to do that than to take advantage of the many community service opportunities available both on and off campus.
