Feel at Home

Our students have come from 49 states and more than 40 countries; 96 percent of them are LDS.

Going to college can be a frightening experience for students (and their parents.) But with our small campus and student body, it doesn't take long for students to feel at home at Southern Virginia.

Parents can rest easily knowing their college student will live in a wholesome Latter-day Saint environment, surrounded by new friends equally committed to the tenets of their faith.

A Campus Community

The Southern Virginia Code of Honor, which is based on the values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints, encourages students, faculty and staff to live each day as leader–servants. As a result, you’ll find that our 155 beautiful acres feel more like a community than an average college campus.

Additionally, all of our students are encouraged to live on campus in order to more fully enjoy the campus environment and participate in student life activities, clubs and organizations. With weekly activities and exciting events scheduled throughout the school year, you’ll make life-long friends and have a great time doing it.

Safe and Sound

At Southern Virginia University, we understand it's crucial for our students not just to be safe on campus but to feel safe as well. That's why all new Southern Virginia students are introduced during orientation to our Public Safety and Security officers, who maintain campus security 24 hours a day.

OPSS provides the Southern Virginia community with a variety of security services, including an escort service to walk students between campus buildings after dark. Also, the Buena Vista Police Department and Fire Department are located adjacent to campus to quickly respond to emergencies at Southern Virginia.
