Course Placement Tests

Foreign Language Placement

If you have studied French, German or Spanish prior to enrolling at Southern Virginia, you must take a foreign language placement test if you wish to continue studying that language at Southern Virginia. There is a fee of $10 which can be paid on-line. Your test results will tell you which course is appropriate for you:

• placement test score of 000–299:  take semester I of the foreign language
  
• placement test score of 300–349:  take semester II of the foreign language
  
• placement test score of 350–399:  take semester III of the foreign language
  
• placement test score of 400–449:  take semester IV of the foreign language
  
• placement test score above 450:  consult with Professor T.R. Porter (540-261-4270, Durham Hall 314) for placement advice

Please note that the first and third semester courses are normally offered only in the fall semester, while the second and fourth semester courses are normally offered only in the spring semester. The exception is Spanish, which often is offered during May and June terms both on campus and in Mexico.
