Medical Mission Trips

Gain World-wide Medical Experience!

Medical mission trips are offered to all qualifying students and have included a month-long medical trip to Ecuador and a trip to the Dominican Republic.

In Ecuador students assisted in helping alleviate the medical needs of indigenous tribes in the Andes Mountains as well as in the Amazon Rainforest, and then traveled to the Galapagos Islands for further medical service.

On medical missions students are able to get broader and deeper medical experiences than available stateside. They are also able to compare and contrast various types of healthcare systems. They learn first hand the importance and impact of health education. And they experience humanitarian aid work on the front lines.

Both the Ecuador and the Dominican Republic medical missions also afforded the participants the added benefit of helping to develop and practice “medical Spanish skills,” an increasingly important part of the field of medicine today. Southern Virginia is currently working to develop programs and classes that also assist this aspect of a medical education.
