Software engineering tops the list of best jobs according to a Money magazine and salary.com
survey
. Benefits include strong growth prospects, an average salary of $80,500 and potential for creativity.
Five computer science jobs are among the top ten from the Bureau of Labor Statistics list of the fastest growing jobs through 2016.
Computer systems software engineer: $81,140
Computer application software engineer: $76,310
Computer systems analyst: $67,520
Database administrator: $61,950
Network system and data communication analyst: $61,250
In April 2006 more Americans where employed in IT than at any other time in the Nation's history.
In May 2004 U.S. IT employment was 17 percent higher than in 1999 and showing an amazing annual growth rate of 8 percent, greatly exceeding predictions of the outsourcing job loss in the U.S., which most studies estimate to be 2-3 percent per year for the next decade.
According to the National Science Foundation, the need for science and engineering graduates will grow 26 percent, or 1.25 million, between now and 2012.
The number of jobs requiring technical training is growing at five times the rate of other occupations, and U.S. schools are no where near meeting the demand, according to multiple studies.
